Developed through public-space interventions in Petare, Venezuela, this research examines how urban design can address fragmentation in self-produced environments by strengthening relationships between communities, institutions, resources, infrastructure, and the broader urban fabric.
It proposes a pentagonal model based on five interdependent forms of linkage: social, connecting community needs with academic knowledge; environmental, using services and infrastructure to reduce risks; economic, articulating public and private resources; management, connecting short-term interventions with long-term urban processes; and urban, using spatial projects to weave self-produced settlements into the city.
