Self-Production and Informality | Popular Economy and Urban Transformation
Video featuring Ignacio Cardona discussing the relationships between urban self-production and informality at the forum “Informal Vendors: Transformative Popular Economy,” held in Bogotá, Colombia, in 2023. The presentation explores how dialogue among governments, communities, informal vendors, professional associations, and academia can become a process of collective learning to promote social inclusion, recognize the dynamics of the popular economy, and strengthen urban productivity.
This event was part of the Educational Programs for Urban Governance and Spatial Democracy, developed by the Petare Latam Foundation under the academic coordination of Ignacio Cardona. The programs trained more than 1,200 community leaders from seven Latin American countries, promoting spatial democracy, participatory urban governance, and collective approaches to urban transformation.
