The Spatial Opportunity Index is a fragment of the Doctoral Dissertation “Spatial Opportunities for Self-Produced Environments” at Harvard Graduate School of Design. The Index aims to determine measurable strategies to improve spatial inequalities in land policies across underprivileged territories.
The framework of Spatial Opportunities, when applied to Self-Produced Environments, could result in the integration of these extensive parts of the city by prioritizing networked infrastructural systems over housing units. This instrument is hinged on the right to the city discourse, which posits that cities are environments that either allow or limit the development of the capabilities of their citizens, in which networked access to the opportunities offered by the city is a fundamental variable.
The Spatial Opportunity Index (SOi) seeks to measure the ways in which land services are distributed to demonstrate the perpetuation of levels of inequality in access to these services throughout history.
