Patterned Justice explores how spatial justice can be translated from shared values into actionable urban design strategies. Building on the Just City Index, the multidisciplinary option studio worked with communities in Pittsburgh to identify locally defined conditions of justice and translate them through co-creation into spatial patterns that could inform future design and planning decisions.

In parallel with the studio, Hanne van den Berg and Ignacio Cardona investigated how patterns emerging from participatory workshops could be systematized as a transferable design methodology. The work connected community-defined values, participatory processes, and spatial design, contributing to Patterned Justice: Design Languages for a Just Pittsburgh, published by the Just City Lab in 2020.
