This urban design proposal examined the Pan-American Highway as the organizing infrastructure of a territory shaped by self-production, rapid urban growth, and limited access to services, employment, and public space. Defined as a “Highway City,” the territory had become highly dependent on private transportation despite significant inequalities in mobility and accessibility.

The proposal introduced sustainable mobility as a framework for spatial transformation, combining a BRT system with intermodal accessibility nodes connected to public spaces, community facilities, and employment. By bringing services and opportunities closer to self-produced settlements, the project sought to reduce travel demand while transforming transportation infrastructure into a system supporting public life, connectivity, and collective identity.
